Each season, with its annual Visionary Artist initiative, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts honors “one extraordinary artist whose impact, vision, and values embody the transformative power of the arts across the many disciplines represented on campus.” This spring, Film at Lincoln Center is proud to celebrate theatrical composer Jeanine Tesori, Lincoln Center Visionary Artist for the 2025–26 season, with a special screening of Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, for which Tesori produced the electrifying musical numbers adapted from Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim’s iconic Broadway score. Starring Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler as star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria, whose ill-fated romance unfolds against the vivid backdrop of 1950s Manhattan’s San Juan Hill, the film features virtuosic vocal performances from Elgort, Zegler, and an acclaimed ensemble cast that also includes Mike Faist, David Alvarez, and Ariana DeBose, whose scene-stealing turn earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Following the screening, join Tesori at the Francesca Beale Theater for an in-depth discussion about her wide-ranging experience composing and producing music for the screen, with a 21st-century audience in mind.
