Special Premiere Screening: After This Our Exile Saturday, July 14, 8:15 pm Director Patrick Tam in Person
Admission: $11 general public; $7 members & students.
Tam returns to filmmaking after 17 years with this moving tale of the complex emotional bond between a father and son. Set in Malaysia, the film begins as a young boy returns home to find his mother packing her suitcases; the boy will now be alone with his father, Cheong-shing (Aaron Kwok), a womanizer and gambler. Soon, the boy takes to crime to support his father's habits. Beautifully shot by cinematographer Mark Lee, the film draws its cast from all over the Chinese film world––Taiwan, Hong Kong and the PRC––to create a touching story set in a distant community. The Film Society is delighted to co-present with Asian CineVision the premiere of the director's cut of After This Our Exile / Fu zi (Hong Kong, 2006; 159m).
