Battles of Troy
Krassimir Terziev, Bulgaria, 2005; 51m
This studies the internal economy of the movie Troy (2004) through the eyes of the lowest unit in the hierarchy — the extras. One of the most expensive productions ever, Warner Bros. was in need of an elite group of actors that had physical stamina, but also possessed a believable “Mediterranean” look. 300 soldiers were recruited from the Sports Academy in Sofia and flown to Mexico for three months of training for the massive battle scenes that then formed the background for the feats of Eric Bana and Brad Pitt. Who, pray tell, are the real superstars?

The Sexorcist: Revirginize Diane Nerwen, USA, 2005; 13m
The Retaking of Pelham One Two Three Jane Brill, USA, 2005; 16m.
Sexorcist is a psycho-sexual horror thriller that interweaves elements from films such as The Exorcist, Crossroads, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Starring Britney Spears, as a teenager tormented by sexual anxiety, and Ellen Burstyn as her frightened, desperate mother, this funny but chilling account of possession, teen angst, and moral panic exposes and satirizes the ideological agenda behind abstinence-based sex education.
The Retaking of Pelham One Two Three evokes the 1974 suspense film about the hijacking of a New York subway train to capture the persistent sense of dread in New York's post-9/11 underground landscape. Ultimately the viewer is left with a plea for reason in the face of a real or imagined threat.
