The One-Armed Swordsman is coming to Lincoln Center!
On November 11, the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema, in association with Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, will present An Evening with Jimmy Wong Yu in the Walter Reade Theater. This not-to-be-missed event will feature a conversation with the legendary Taiwanese actor and filmmaker, his presentation with the New York Asian Film Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and a screening of Wong Yu’s 1977 grindhouse classic Master of the Flying Guillotine in 35mm.
Wong Yu launched to stardom with his role in the Shaw Brothers’ landmark martial-arts film The One-Armed Swordsman (1967). From there, he went on to cement his legendary status by writing, directing, and starring in The Chinese Boxer (1970), the film that would ignite kung-fu fever around the globe and was a major influence on Bruce Lee.
With a career spanning five decades, more than 80 acting credits, and 12 directing credits, Wong Yu is a powerhouse of the martial-arts genre. But don’t take our word for it. Check out some of his unforgettable fight scenes below!
Tickets for An Evening with Jimmy Wong Yu will go on sale Thursday, October 23. Admission is $25 for general public and $20 for students, seniors, and Film Society members.
